Flowing Wellness: A Study of Freshwater Stream Health

Science is best learned through hands-on, real life experiences. Glen Ridge has its limits when it comes to studying the outdoors but directly across from Ridgewood Avenue School Tony’s Brook will provide a fabulous outdoor classroom experience for the 6th grade to develop an understanding of the impact the community can have on the environment. Students will take readings of the dissolved oxygen, phosphates and nitrates from run-off and also conduct an investigation of the biological indicators such as larva of various flies (stonefly, caddisfly & mayfly). This grant will provide the equipment needed for the students to conduct these experiments.
